October 25, 2008: High School Musical 3 Senior Year

Yesterday, I went to see High School Musical 3 on the day it came out because I have been waiting for this, since I heard they were making a third film. Many of my friends and family members didn't like the films or thought they were a waste of time. But to me, High School Musical was a musical that had great music, great characters that you can like, and good plotline.

So when the film started with a big musical number, I was tapping my foot to the beat and was totally in my element. The movie was all about graduation and the fear of going out the big world and and moving away from your friends and loved ones. So the group decided to get together and put on a musical about their final year. Of course, what would there with with out some drama, and heartbreaks and the realization of who you are and what do you want out of life.

The music was very upbeat, even for the slower ones, it was much better then the second one which I felt the director heavily used the electronic synthesizer. Also there was nice breaks between the songs to help the story develop. Another thing that I enjoyed was more of the supporting cast was able to sing little solos and parts along with the main cast.

But when the film ended with the main cast graduating, you could tell that it was end of a series, that left some room for the new cast and another film if they wanted to do another. Also the ending was well down and very emotional and realistic to watch these kids move on to better things and not just in the movie, but in reality too.

I strongly recommend this film to those who like musicals and who liked the series. I defiantly suggest watching the first two, if you never watched it before. But overall it's a wonderful film about life and growing up and pursuing your dreams. Good fun for everyone and by the time you leave the theater, you will have a smile and maybe some tears on your face and humming your favorite song from the film.

October 22, 2008: Max Payne Review

Today because my class was canceled, I decided to take in a movie. When I heard that Max Payne was number one at the box office, i decided to go see it.

Now I have the video games at home and when I saw the first trailer of the film, I was excited. My excitement was short lived when I found out that the film was rated PG-13. Now I can understand, that the film was meant to bring in the younger audience, but I thought it was stupid ploy to make a quick buck. Max Payne was rated mature for violence, scary images, language, and drug and sexual content. This was a man's game and they were making a mockery of the whole thing. But as I sat in the darkened theater, expecting to be disappointed. I was greeted with a film that wasn't too bad.

The film main star Mark Wahlberg did a good job portraying Max Payne, but felt like he could be darker and more of a rouge cop. Mila Kunis did such a good job as Mona Sax, and I can't wait to see her character develop more, if there is a sequel. (Don't Leave The Theater Until After The Credits)

The only problem I had with the film, was the storyline. The trailer's hinted at the supernatural and I felt like that could have been more developed and explained for. But the action scenes were good, and there was a bit of that comic book fighting scene. You know where someone punches the hero, and there is a flash of color and sometimes a Bam! or Slam! Also from the trailer, it was hinted that film could be shot in the film noir sense, like a old detective type like that game. But it was more modern and there wasn't enough of narration from Max Payne like in the game.

So in the end, it was a nice movie to watch if you want to see some good action scenes and good mystery. But overall, it falls slightly short towards the end and the ending seemed too rushed. But still makes a good attempted for being based off a video game. If they make a sequel, make it a hardcore R film, or make it like The Dark Knight, a dark hardcore PG-13.

October 21, 2008

Well what can I say, I am speechless and so surprised to be awarded my very own blog. I want to thank all the people who believe in me and all those who thought I would fail, I am still standing...

Whoa, got a little carried away for a moment. I am like that, I write and write; sometimes I get a little too mellow dramatic. But if you knew me in real life, you would know that I love drama. I am just a simple guy who is going through college and trying to find myself and who I am in the midst of this crazy Topsy Tervy world. But this is what I know right now.

My name is Joe and I am gay, it's not as easy as it sounds. Try being gay when you are overshadowed by a couple of over-achiever sisters and a religious family. I mostly have to stay in the closet for right now, in fear of my secret being reveled and the harmful consequences that will occur. But once I transfer to a university and start on my own, my truth will come out and I will be free at last. But till then, the internet and my closest friends are the only ones who will know the truth.

I hope that didn't sound so depressing and dramatic, because I am not sad or depressing kind of guy. Unless I watch a sad movie or hear some depressing news on TV. But those who know me and have met me know that I am a positive person and have such a great smile to greet people with. It's hard to stay positive in a world that contently showing the bad and negative stuff that's going on. But I know not everything can be solved with a smile and a song, though sometimes I wish my life was like a musical. I mean, wouldn't be cool if you were having a great day and suddenly you just burst into song and people around would start dancing in glee because they share your same feelings for life. I would love that, and speaking of musicals. I just saw one on Sunday and it was one of the best musicals I have seen. It's called Spring Awakening and it was awesome, so raw and edgy. Full of emotion and drama, jaw dropping performances, and great music. I would recommend it to anyone that is 17 and older, because it's very mature and there is a lot of adult content in it. But it has a great message and deals with problems in today's society. I can't say more because I don't want to ruin it, but if it's back in town again, I am taking my friends to see it.

Well I have to head out and finish studying for my Sociology quiz, so have a great day people and let me know what you want to see and hear, because I want this blog to be fun and exciting.
